Bay Drive
Practice for the California driving test: the car, and the written test. Live
A 3D driving simulator for the California DMV Class C behind-the-wheel test. Nine lessons, a mock exam on three routes, driving by day, at dusk, at night and in the rain, and a cockpit you operate the way you would in a real automatic.
What's in it
Driving school
Nine lessons from the pedals to a full mock test. Every step says what to do and when it is done, a glowing ring points at the control you need, and G demonstrates it. Early lessons draw the path and cap your speed; later ones take the help away.
DMV mock test
The pre-drive check, then an examiner who calls each turn about a block ahead, on a new route every time: lights, both kinds of stop sign, lane changes, a pull-over and backing up, so you can't memorise it. Scored on a sheet laid out like the DMV's.
A real cockpit
Hold the brake and press START. Shift with the gear lever, signal with the โ โถ buttons by the wheel, buckle the belt, find the headlight knob. Every control is also a labelled button, and a glowing ring shows what to do next. Mirror and blind-spot checks are keys, and small lights show which checks still count before you change lanes.
A debrief after every drive
Mistakes are flagged as they happen. Afterwards you get your top three things to fix, a map of the drive with a pin at each mistake, and a replay of each one from outside the car.
Real roads, real situations
Day, dusk, night and rain; a school zone with a crossing guard; school buses that stop to load and ambulances you must pull over for. The rules follow California law for each of them.
Drills
Ten short drills of the manoeuvres examiners mark, from the stop sign to backing along the curb. Each rep is judged like the test, with a replay of every mistake and a clean streak to beat.
Bayview is a fictional town inspired by the East Bay; its streets are not DMV test routes, and the mock-test score is a simplified estimate, not an official DMV result. Practice on real roads only as your permit allows.
Revise for the California Class C knowledge test, the written test you pass before you get a permit. A study guide, a sheet of every number the test asks about, and practice tests in the DMV's format.
What's in it
Study guide
Nine topics written from the California Driver's Handbook: signs and signals, right-of-way, speed limits, turns and lanes, parking, safe driving, sharing the road, alcohol and drugs, licences and collisions.
Numbers to memorize
One sheet with every distance, speed, age, limit and deadline the test likes to ask: 100 feet to signal, 15 feet from a hydrant, 0.08 per cent, 10 days to report a collision. A quick-fire drill asks them back until they stick.
Real sign pictures
Thirty-six signs, signals and curb colours drawn to their official shapes and colours, asked the way the test asks them: "What does this sign mean?"
Practice tests
360 three-choice questions, each with an explanation and the handbook section. Full tests use the DMV format: 46 questions with 38 to pass under 18, or 36 with 30 to pass for adults.
Daily review
Every question was checked against the current handbook. A short daily review brings back what you miss sooner and what you know later, and a real test mode gives no feedback until the end.
Test day and real practice
What to bring and the errors that fail you, summarised from dmv.ca.gov; a log of your supervised hours toward the 50 (10 at night); a plan for drives with your supervisor; and a readiness check built from all of it.
The questions were written for this app from the California Driver's Handbook; they are not the DMV's test. The DMV sets the question count and the passing standard, so confirm the current rules at dmv.ca.gov before your appointment.
Tech
- Three.js, TypeScript and Vite; the whole town is generated in code
- A rule engine aligned with the DMV's Driving Performance Evaluation scoring criteria
- Runs entirely in the browser; no account, no server, no network requests after loading
- Progress and settings stay in local browser storage
